Built in 1911 by Captain Henry Pybus and the architect Samuel Birds, the St Clair Hotel was the first concrete building in Vancouver. The hotel originally accommodated railway and ocean-going passengers to Pacific and Atlantic locations.
Now a Vancouver Heritage Building, the hostel (with its nautically theme decor) still provides inexpensive, quality rooms at an economy price for travelers on a budget. The hostel is located in downtown Vancouver proper, just steps away from public transit trolley buses and SkyTrain rapid transit stations. This central location gives our guests easy walking access to Vancouver's renowned nightlife, fine dining, theatre, sports and music events. Stanley Park and our famous Vancouver beaches and landmarks are just around the corner too!
Back in 1897 the doughty Captain Pybus and crew won the Blue Ribbon after setting the Trans-Pacific crossing record aboard the Canadian Pacific steamship "Empress of Japan" (the dragon masthead of this fine vessel can be seen on the Stanley Park Seawall). Today, travel to Vancouver is even faster. But it is just as important to know that you will have a clean, comfortable bed and room awaiting your arrival.
At Vancouver's St Clair Hotel, you will find all that and more. Check out our Activities page for a few ideas!
